A study on carriers of hepatitis B virus using the Ayurvedic herb Phylanthus Amarus revealed that 59% of the 37 treated carriers compared to only 4% of placebo subjects had lost HBsAg at 15-20 days. Up to 9 months later, HBsAg had not returned in these subjects. There were no significant side-effects. Lancet 1990; 335: 1600.
